How Scouting Began

Scouting was invented by Baden Powell.

Baden Powell fought in the war in South Africa and when he got back he decided to take a group of boys to a two week camp in Dorset in England. 

He taught them what he knew about survival from the war and they lived in tents and cooked food and learned survival skills through games. it went really well so BP wrote about this in a book and it was really popuilar and led to lots of scout groups strating everywhere!

The World Scout Badge

Here's is a drawing I have done of the World Scout Badge.  

The drawing was designed by Baden Powell and it is a fleur-de-lyse or "symbolic flower" with three petals, two stars and a rope around it.

Here is what the three petals mean:
1. Service to others 
2. Duty to god
3. Obedience to the Scout law.

There is a band around the petals holding them together and this represents the Family of Scouting.

The rope around the fleur-de-lys represents the unity of the world scouting movement. The rope is tied with a reef knot. This is a knot that can't be undone and it's used to symbolise the strength of the world scouting community.

The stars on the petals of the fleur-de-lys represent:
1. Truth
2. Knowledge
and the 10 points reference the 10 scout laws.

Finally, the colours:
PURPLE is the coulr for leadership and service
and WHITE is the colour for purity and peace.

Australian Jamboree

The Australian Jamboree is held every three years and goes for 10 nights. The next one will be in January 2022. It will be the 26th one and will be held in VICTORIA.
